Conductor

Italian musician, after studying composition and french horn in Matera, he trained at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, in the years in which he collaborated with the theater orchestra under the baton of the most important conductors in the world (Muti, Gergiev, Luisi, Temirkanov, Levine, Chung, Sinopoli).


The meeting with Maestro Fabio Luisi (of whom he was assistant) and with Maestro Aldo Ceccato, one of the most important conductors of the second half of the twentieth century, leading exponent of the conducting school of the famous Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache, is fundamental for the growth and musical maturation.


The music critic of the “Corriere della Sera” (the most important Italian newspaper) Paolo Isotta dedicated an authoritative portrait to him in the bestseller "The virtue of the elephant", calling him "one of the most extraordinary musicians I know".


Artistic and music director of the Orchestra of Matera and Basilicata (sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Basilicata Region), he successfully conducts operas and concerts in Italy and abroad. Of particular note are the acclaimed concerts leading the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, Tirana State Opera House, Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, Kazakhstan National Symphony Orchestra, Craiova Opera House, Bucharest National Operetta Theater, Ramnicu Valcea Philarmonic, Filarmonic Witold Lutoslawski ok Lomza (Polonia Varna State Opera House, Pitesti Philarmonic, Orchestra of the National Radio-Television of Serbia RTS Belgrade, Teatro Cilea Orchestra, Orchestra Scarlatti of Napoli, Orchestra Camerata XXI (Spain), Harmonie Ensemble (Valencia, Spain), Boccherini Orchestra of Lucca, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra of Bari, Philharmonic Orchestra of Calabria, Symphonic Orchestra of Sanremo, International Orchestra of Italy, “Antonio Vivaldi” Orchestra, Benevento Philharmonic Orchestra.


The wide repertoire goes from the Renaissance to today, with operas by Puccini, Strauss, Menotti, Verdi, Pergolesi, Rossini, Mozart, and symphonic works from Beethoven to Shostakovic and Stravinsky, from Varèse to Boulez, from Schumann to Mahler and Britten, from Mozart and Cherubini to Henze and Prokofiev, from Tchaikovsky to Mussorgsky, Ravel e Rachmaninov.


He conducted the world premiere of "Musiche per Matera" by Georg Friedrich Haas, considered "the most important composer in the world of the 21st century" (Classic Voice Magazine). This work, of which he was also the creator and artistic director as part of the Matera 2019 schedule, won the prestigious Abbiati Award of music criticism as "best novelty of the year 2019", and it was included among the 10 best concerts of 2019 and reviewed by important international newspapers.


Among the other "absolute premieres" conducted, the "Missa Vox Dei" by composer Nicola Campogrande, "Stupor mundi" and "Canto di Azuma" stand out by the composer Damiano D'Ambrosio, “Sliding doors” by Alberto Bocini, “Music for strings” by Gabriele Cosmi.


On the occasion of the Inaugural Ceremony of the year in Matera, European Capital of Culture 2019, he conducted the Hymn to Joy by L.v. Beethoven - performed by about 2000 musicians from all over Europe - as well as the musical performance for the evening ceremony in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic. He also conducted at the inauguration of Plovdiv European Capital of Culture 2019.


He has participated in international and national festivals collaborating with soloists such as Enrico Bronzi, Ksenia Milas, Ettore Pellegrino, Cesare Chiacchiaretta, Kristian Benedikt, Raffaella Cardaropoli, Domenico Colaianni, Paolo Fresu, Marco Pierobon, Abigeila Voshtina, Roberta Mantegna, Loriana Castellano, Sandro Laffranchini, Gabriele Cassone, Marco Schiavo, Alberto Bocini, Grazia Raimondi, Leonardo Colafelice, Carlo Romano, Lorena Valero


The next appointments include operas and concerts in USA, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Poland, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, Israel, Albania, Portugal.


He was awarded the "Unpli Basilicata" Award, awarded to the Lucanians who "with their work bring prestige to the region nationally and internationally".


He held a masterclass for young conductors for the AIDO Academy at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia (Spain).


He conceived and curated events of international importance, involving authoritative partners and obtaining prestigious awards: among them the representative plate of the President of the Republic. He also dedicated to organizing social and cultural educational projects for children and the neediest children. In this context, he promoted the creation of various children's and youth orchestras inspired by the “Abreu System” (a project to which Maestro Claudio Abbado dedicated his energies in the last years of his life). He is Chamber music teacher at the Matera Conservatory.
