Mezzo-Soprano, Julia Powers, is an adaptive artist of opera, oratorio, and choral repertoire. She is returning to Mission Opera after appearing as a soloist at the “Night at the Opera” Gala last season. Other recent roles include Alisa in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Princess Nicoletta in Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges, and Countess Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto with Independent Opera Company. As well as Assistant B in New Opera West’s “Pop Up” production of A Womb with a View by Beth Ratay.


Her online performance credits include Opera Cecilia’s virtual Crossover Cabaret YouTube series, Rossini’s La Regata Veneziana in Mousaverse’s Young Artist Recital series, and recording Dryad in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos for release in Mousaverse’s virtual reality platform.


Since relocating to the West Coast, she has continued an active career in choral and oratorio performance. She appeared as the Alto Soloist with I Cantori di Carmel in their productions of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Mozart’s Requiem. She joined the Central Coast Chamber Choir on their recent “Bach and Buxtehude” concert series, and the LA Master Chorale in collaboration with the LA Philharmonic for Salonen’s Karawane and Ravel’s Daphnis et Cloé last December.


Ms. Powers holds a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and a master’s degree in Vocal Performance from Baylor University. She has been an Emerging Artist with I Cantori di Carmel, Seagle Festival, Opera in the Ozarks, Chicago Summer Opera, Red River Lyric Opera, and Utah Vocal Arts Academy.
