The Old Maid and the Thief is a satirical, one-act comic opera by Gian Carlo Menotti. Originally commissioned as a radio opera, the story follows a lonely, respectable spinster and her maid whose infatuation with a handsome vagrant causes them to abandon their morals, turn to crime, and become thieves.
